The Gran Fondo Giro d’Italia brings together the top organization level and production value of the Giro d’Italia with supreme expertize in organizing mass participation events to produce a true “italian” Gran Fondo experience that participants will never forget.
This new format of Gran Fondo Giro d’Italia will be organized in the next years around the world, in iconic places.
Participants will experience the challenges and atmoshphere typically reserved for professional races, in a fun “italian style” environment that will allow the participants to challenege themselves and celebrate their accomplishments, while enjoing “La Dolce Vita”! A great course, gourmet italian Pasta Party at the end, top class italian wine, some of the best italian brand at the Expo: all this is a GranFondo Giro d’Italia!
Each Gran Fondo Giro d’Italia will have a competitive timing element, named Gran Premio della Montagna, utilizing electronic chip timing: prizes will be awarded in the different categories for the lowest elapsed times in the designated zones.
The Gran Fondo Giro d’Italia is being organized for the first time in 2012.
The first events will be in the United States in the great destinations of:
July 22nd: Los Angeles-Pasadena
November 11th: Miami-Coral Gables
Several thousand participants are expected at each event.
Annually, starting in May 2013, in Italy, during the Giro d’Italia, the Gran Fondo Giro d’Italia will be organized on a stage of the Giro, to give amateur cyclists the opportunity to challenge themselves on a course identical to one of the spectacular stages of the professional race, giving participants a true taste of the life of a professional cyclist, while being able to ride at their own pace.
In 2013 other destinations will be added around the world.
