COURSE DESCRIPTION

Pasadena, California, is best known throughout the world as the host of the annual Tournament of Roses Parade and Rose Bowl football game, and let’s not forget the Little Old Lady. But the City also boasts numerous cultural amenities, fine restaurants and top retailers. All this helps Pasadena live up to the true meaning of its name—the Crown of the Valley.

All routes for the Gran Fondo Giro d’Italia Pasadena start and finish in front of the magnificent City Hall in Pasadena, and will parade through historic Old Town, over the iconic Colorado Boulevard Bridge, drop down along the Arroyo Seco, passing a little house built from the wooden boards of the 1932 Los Angeles Olympic Games Velodrome, as it drops into the basin housing the Rose Bowl Stadium.

Leaving the basin, the routes transverse some beautiful neighborhoods, before going past Descanso Gardens. After passing through the charming town of Montrose, the short route turns towards the foothills, before returning to Pasadena, while the medium and long routes plunge into the valley before entering the canyons and climbs of the San Gabriel Mountains, where the KOM will occur.

Following the KOM, a decision needs to be made; how much more climbing and how many more miles do you want to ride.If you choose the medium route, you will climb immediately before your thrilling descent back towards the foothills; if you chose the long route, you’ll still have plenty more to climb, but you’ll also have some nice stretches of mountain roads to recover on, before reaching the same thrilling descent if you had taken the medium route option.

All routes return to the finish line at Pasadena City Hall by going past the Rose Bowl and Old Town again.Your finisher’s medal and authentic Italian lunch will be well earned.
